Located in the East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on the Chota Nagpur plateau, Jamshedpur is founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata and hence got the name. The food of Jamshedpur is a unique amalgamation of cuisines of Bihar and Bengal. The population of the city comprises of both vegetarians and non-vegetarians and the staple diet of the local inhabitants includes dal, chawal, roti and sabzi. Sattu is a popular traditional item liked and consumed by the local people of Jamshedpur. Sattu powder mixed with spices and onions serves as a popular cuisines of the region. Pua, a food that looks like pancake is another favorite among the local people. It is a sweet dish which is often prepared during festivals.
