Sangli is a city and the district headquarters of Sangli District in the state of Maharashtra, in western India. It is known as the Turmeric City of Maharashtra due to its production and trade of the spice.[3] Sangli is situated on the banks of river Krishna and houses many sugar factories. The Ganesha Temple of Sangli is a historical landmark of the city and is visited by thousands of pilgrims. SANGLI city is located in the Indian state of Maharashtra on the banks of river Krishna, nearly 400 kilometers southeast of Mumbai. This region lies in the Deccan plateau. Other small rivers, such as the Warana and the Panchganga, flow into the River Krishna. Land in the region is best suitable for agriculture.

Sangli is a well-planned city with broad roads. Sangli-Miraj road is the broadest road in the city with a six-lane traffic. The Municipal Corporation has developed a number of 100 feet wide roads in the city, which have helped to reduce the traffic on the main roads. MSRTC runs city bus service in Sangli-Miraj twin cities and nearby circle of about 20 km. Autorickshaws are found in plenty in the city. Sangli has developed itself as a is now a modern city with broader roads, major railway junction, cyber-cafes, hotels with multi-cuisine, very good education, healthcare, telecommunication and entertainment facilities.
