The best time to visit Goa is between late October and early April. The peak tourist season is from mid-December to mid-January, when the weather is near perfect, with daytime temperatures rarely going beyond 32° C. People from all over the world descend upon Goa at this time of the year, so be sure to have made your hotel bookings well in advance as accommodation prices hit the ceiling due to high demand. Christmas and New Years is celebrated through out Goa with a lot of gusto and everyone literally lets down their hair to be part of these celebrations.

Mid-November to Mid-February: These are the best months to visit the party capital since the weather is pleasantly cool and comfortable. December is the time when Goa witnesses one of its most popular festivals, Sunburn, besides extensive Christmas and New Year celebrations and is home to lakhs of visitors from across the world. You might want to book your hotels in advance since this is the peak season and prices of accommodation go way higher than you would imagine.

March to May: This is the season when the temperature rises, the sea becomes rougher and the weather turns hot and humid. Not many people visit Goa between the months of March and May since there are not many activities to indulge in. However, the prices of hotels and home stays become way too reasonable in case you want to visit Goa for a three-to-four day break with your beloved, looking for peace and calm.

Mid-June to October: Mid-June to October is the time when the rains hit the beautiful Goa. July to September is a great time to visit. One of the reasons to visit Goa during monsoons is also due to the festival of Sao-Joao (the fertility feast of Saint John the Baptist) that is held during late June. It’s an interesting event where men jump into wells that are overflowing to fetch bottles of the local alcohol called feni. You might get a good bargain at the hotels during this season.

Without doubt the peak season for visitors to Goa is over the short Christmas and New Year period, when prices are hiked phenomenally and many places are booked solid a year in advance. Yet this is a great time to be in Goa: the weather is glorious, the atmosphere is suitably festive, the tinsel is liberally festooned, and fireworks grace the evening sky. Though Goa’s frenetic party scene of years gone by has now slowed to a trickle, this is when all the best parties are held, and music festivals grace the northern coast’s clubs and beaches. Don’t expect peace and quiet, but for gleeful Christmas spirit under the tropical sun it surely can’t be beaten. The rains descend upon Goa during the months of June and July. Although really wet, Goa looks beautiful and lush and while swimming in the sea is not recommended, the flip side is that there are not too many tourists around so hotel prices are bottomed out. Take advantage of the low prices and visit Goa in the monsoons for a very different experience.

Goans, whether Christian, Hindu or Muslim, embrace Christmas, festooning everything with tinsel, whilst local school children try out their carol singing for tourists on the beach. Having a slap up seafood lunch under the tropical sun is certainly one way to get into the Christmas spirit, and New Year is no different in Goa to anywhere in the world, except that you can party with the warm sand between your toes under a sky full of fireworks.

February and March are great months to be in Goa, as the beaches slowly empty of tourists and room rates become more reasonable. From April until the monsoon rains break in June, the weather gets increasingly hot and humid (you may want to ensure that your room has air-conditioning at this time of year) and some beach places start to close. However, many resorts offer great rates at this time of year and you will sometimes have the remoter beaches practically to yourself.
