Travel to an ancient India that has been lost to time but laid the foundations for the India of today in our Ancient India Tour. Get whisked off to the attractions of the Golden Triangle; Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. Continue on to the sacred Khajuraho Temples and spiritual Varanasi. Finish the tour off in beautiful Kathmandu, Nepal.
Day 1 Delhi arrival
The first day of this tour begins with arrival in Delhi and getting transferred to a hotel to check in. Enjoy an overnight stay and get refreshed for the upcoming journey.
Day 2 Delhi attractions
Begin this morning with a flavorful breakfast at the hotel and then prepare for an exciting full-day tour of Old and New Delhi.
Starting out in Old Delhi, get the chance to visit the stunning Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque. Built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1644, it is one of the finest pieces of Mughal architecture. Continue on to the Red Fort, also constructed by Shah Jahan, the walls around this fort rose around 1638 and construction of the fort continued in 1648.
Next on visit the beautiful gardens of Humayun’s Tomb, the second Mughal emperor, commissioned by Humayun’s first wife Bega Begum in 1565. Also visit the impressive Qutub Minar tower, the second tallest minar in India. It was commissioned by Qutub-ud-din Aibak, the first Muslim ruler of Delhi in 1193 and this tower reaches a soaring height of 73 meters.
Continue on to the India Gate war memorial, built between 1921 and 1931 in memory of the soldier’s lives that were lost during World War I. Located at the end of the famous Rajpath boulevard, known as “King’s Way”, it is a beautiful architectural structure. Nearby also drive by the Presidential Headquarters.
Lastly, make a visit to the famous Birla Mandir temple, also known as “Laxminarayan Temple”. This temple was built in 1939 and is dedicated to “Laxmi”, the Goddess of Prosperity, and “Narayana”, the Preserver.
After this full Delhi-experience, head back to the hotel to get a good night’s rest.
Day 3 Jaipur awaits
Start this day off with a tasty breakfast at the hotel and then continue this Ancient India journey to Jaipur. On arrival, check in to the hotel. After lunch, make a visit at the Birla Mandir temple, also known as “Lakshmi Narayan temple”, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Built completely in white marble, it is a stunning structure to witness.
The rest of the evening will be enjoyed freely, get the chance to explore own sights of interest such as the bustling bazaars or some of the local food. Later enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 4 Sights of Jaipur
Begin this beautiful morning with a filling breakfast at the hotel and prepare for a journey to the famous Amber fort. Located on a hilltop, this stunning fort was built at the end of the 16th century by Raja Man Singh I. It is today listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with 6 other forts in Rajasthan. To get to the top of the fort, enjoy an exciting elephant ride to the entrance.
Next on visit the City Palace. Built in 1729, this is where the Maharaja reigned from. It also contains a museum with ancient objects such as weaponry, art and jewelry. Enjoy a visit to the beautiful Hawa Mahal structure, also known as “Palace of Winds”. This iconic building was built in 1799 so that the women of the royal household would be able to discreetly watch the outside life going on in the city. Lastly visit the Jantar Mantar Observatory to enjoy yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Later enjoy an overnight stay back at the hotel and get a good night’s rest.
Day 5 Agra journey - Visit to Fatehpur Sikri
Tomb of Sheikh Salim
After having visited the main attractions of Jaipur, it’s time to continue the journey on to Agra. Begin with a morning breakfast at the hotel and then prepare for the drive. On the way to Agra there will be the chance to visit the famous city of Fatehpur Sikri. Today a deserted town, it used to be the capital of ancient Agra but due to lack of a functioning water system the town was abandoned and has today remained untouched.
Here will be the chance to visit the Jama Masjid, the Tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal and other palaces. The Jama Masjid in Fatehpur Sikri was built as a part of the Fatehpur Sikri complex by the Mughal emperor Akbar and was supervised by Salim Chisti. When Salim Chisti later passed away, Akbar had a beautiful tomb built in his honor.
After lunch, the journey to Agra will continue. On arrival, check in to a hotel and get comfortable. Enjoy the evening freely and later get a good night’s sleep.
Day 6 Agra attractions
Begin this lovely morning with getting reenergized with a hotel breakfast and then start the city tour of Agra. A visit will be made to the stunning Red Fort, built by the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1565, it is shows a beautiful piece of Mughal architecture. Later additions to the fort were made by his grandson, the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.
Also visit the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daula known as "the Jewel Box" or "Baby Taj", which is a mausoleum in Agra commissioned by Nur Jahan for her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg.
In the afternoon, continue on to visit the stunning Taj Mahal, built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his late wife Mumtaz Mahal. Enjoy a sunset at this magical location and get enraptured by the love story of our times.
Later head back to the hotel and enjoy a good night's rest.
Day 7 Orchha visit and Khajuraho awaits
This day will begin bright and early with a tasty morning breakfast and then heading off to the Agra train station. Here, catch the train for Jhansi and on arrival visit the town of Orccha. Later continue the journey to Khajuraho.
On arrival, check in to a hotel and get a good night's rest.
Day 8 Khajuraho temples
Start the day with a filling breakfast at the hotel and then head off to the main attraction of today, the famous Khajuraho temples. These ancient temples are a number of monuments listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Consisting of 21 different Hindu and Jain temples, they are known for having intricate details and carvings all alongside of the temples. Get the chance to visit the Eastern and Western group of the temples and enjoy this fine work of art.
Later, enjoy the evening at own leisure and get a good night’s rest at the hotel.
Day 9 Varanasi awaits
Khajuraho to Varanasi
Wake up refreshed to a tasty morning breakfast and prepare to transfer to Varanasi through the airport in Khajuraho. On arrival, check in to a hotel and enjoy the evening to relax and get energy for tomorrow’s adventure. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 10 The Origin of Buddhism
Today’s adventures begins with a hearty breakfast at the hotel and afterwards prepare for a day-trip to Sarnath. This is where Buddha arrived after he attained enlightenment and he then preached his first sermon at the deer park.
Get the chance to visit the ruins, the stupa, the Buddhist temple and the museum. The Dhamekha Stupa is the most conspicuous structure in Sarnath, and is said to represent the place where Buddhism’s voice was first heard. The original structure of the stupa is believed to have been built by Ashoka, the Emperor of India during ancient times.
In the evening, enjoy the time freely and get a good night’s rest back at the hotel.
Day 11 The Spiritual Experience
This morning will begin bright and early with a magical boat ride on the Ganges river. Witness the bathing Ghats and the cremation sites along the river while enjoying the sunrise at a peaceful mind.
Afterwards return to the hotel to enjoy an energizing breakfast followed by a tour of Varanasi. Visit some of the famous temples such as the Bharat Mata Temple, Durga Temple and Tulsi Manaras Mandir. Continue to enjoy the art gallery at the Benaras Hindu University and later visit the mosque of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
In the evening, enjoy an exciting rickshaw cycle ride alongside the banks of the Ganges river. Witness the Ganges prayer which is held every evening and then return back to the hotel by the cycle rickshaw. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 12 Kathmandu awaits
Enjoy a tasty morning breakfast and then prepare to transfer to Nepal through the airport in Varanasi. After arriving in Kathmandu, Nepal, get checked in to a hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening to relax and get a good night’s rest.
Day 13 Kathmandu sights
Get refreshed with a morning breakfast at the hotel and today enjoy a tour to all the major attractions of Kathmandu.
Begin with a visit to the ancient area of Kashtmandap square and continue on to Hanuman Dhoka, a complex with many incredible structures and monuments. Here are the former palaces and residences of the Malla kings. Enjoy these ancient sites and later continue to the Kumari Ghar palace located in Kathmandu city. This palace is believed to be the home of the Kumari Goddess, a tradition where a young girl is manifested as divine female energy. Also visit Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Pashupatinath, an incarnation of the Hindu God Shiva.
Continue to the famous Boudhanath stupa, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is also one of the largest stupas in the world. Later visit the Bhimsen Tower and Narayan Museum and at the end of the day make a visit to Patan City, known for its rich cultural heritage represented by art and crafts.
Regain the energy back at the hotel and enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Day 14 Kathmandu leisure
Start the day with a warm breakfast at the hotel. The rest of the day is to be enjoyed at own leisure; exploring the city, purchasing those last souvenirs for loved ones and trying out the local cuisine. Enjoy the night at the hotel.
Day 15 Departure day
This last day begins with a filling morning breakfast to regain the energy and then being transferred to the airport for onward destination. Hopefully there are many beautiful memories brought from this journey home.
