Day 1 Arrival in Cochin – next stop Munnar
Munnar western ghats
Begin this tour by arriving in Cochin. Meet on arrival and next enjoy a relaxing car ride to the first destination of the tour: Munnar. Taking about 4 hours, Munnar is one of the most famous hill stations located on the Western Ghats and reaches a height of 1600 metres above sea level. When arriving in Munnar, check in to a hotel and get comfortable. Enjoy an overnight stay here.
Day 2 Munnar sights
Enjoy a warm hotel breakfast and afterwards begin a full day city tour of Munnar by visiting - Mattupetty dam, Echo point, Kundala Lake, Tea Factory and Tea museum among other sites. This day is to enjoy the sights of Munnar and the mesmerizing natural landscape it has to offer.
In the evening, enjoy a good night’s rest back at the hotel to get energized to continue the journey.
Day 3 Thekkady journey awaits
After regaining energy with a hearty breakfast, prepare for a car ride to travel on to the city of Thekkady, also known as Periyar. The drive will take around 3-4 hours and on arrival check in to a hotel.
Later enjoy the sights of Thekkady, starting with a visit to a spice plantation. Most of the spices in India are grown from here and a variety of tea, pepper, cardamom, cloves, vanilla, nutmeg, coffee and cinnamon is offered at these plantations.
After finishing up at the plantations, head off to enjoy a boat ride at the Periyar Lake in the afternoon (Kindly note that there is not a possibility to make a booking in advance for the boat rides and they are therefore subject to availability and direct payment). With this boat ride, get the chance to see the wildlife around the lake such as exotic birds, reptiles and other animals. Near the hills of the Periyar river, there are many reservations for other species such as tigers and elephants.
After this exotic and adventurous day, head back to the hotel to enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Day 4 Marari arrival
Wake up to a warm morning breakfast and then prepare to head off to the next destination of this tour: Marari. A car ride will be arranged and taking about 4 hours to reach the destination and on arrival get comfortable and check in at a new hotel. Have the rest of the day to explore the beach and sights nearby freely. Later enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 5 Marari Beach and Alleppey Houseboats
Enjoy a tasty morning breakfast at the hotel and then relax at the beach till 11 AM. Later drive about 30 minutes to Alleppey, which is known to be a “Venice of the East” by its special geographical features as the location is famous for its vast back water stretches and paddy fields. Get the opportunity to board a houseboat and explore the back waters with its serene beauty. Lunch and evening snacks will be served on the houseboat and at evening time disembark from houseboat. Return to Marari to enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 6 Marari Beach and Cochin Dance
Revive the energy with a satisfying morning breakfast and relaxation at the beach. In the afternoon, prepare for the next destination, Cochin, taking about 1.5 hour’s drive. When arriving, check in at the hotel and get comfortable. In the evening, enjoy the famous Kathakali Dance which is known for having performers with extravagant make-up, colorful costumes, elaborate gestures and detailed body movements. Later enjoy an overnight stay back at the hotel.
Day 7 Cochin and departure
Resume the vigour with a hearty morning breakfast at the hotel and then enjoy a city tour of Cochin. The first visit will be at the famous Mattancherry Palace, which was built as a gift by the Portuguese in 1555 for Raja of Cochin. This beautiful palace contains many art structures, portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of Cochi. Next up visit the St. Francis Church and Jewish Synagogue. Enjoy the spectacular view of giant Chinese fishing nets, called “Cheena vala”, being lowered on the famous Vasco-da-Gama Square.
Also visit the Marine Drive, Fort Kochi, the Hill Palace, Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica and the Pallipuram Fort. The Hill Palace used to be an ancient administrative office for the Rajas of Kochi. Built in 1865, this palace complex contains 49 buildings built with a traditional architectural style. It is today the largest archaeological museum in Kerala.
The Santa Cruz Basilica is one of eight Basilicas located in India. It can be described as an open court building and an important large church which has been given ceremonial rights from the Pope. This cathedral is located in Fort Kochi and was built by the Portuguese in 1558. Enjoy the sights of this church, known to be one of the finest and most impressive one in India.
In the evening, transfer to the airport to connect to flight for onward destination.
