The Religious Experience of India Tour will start out in the capital Delhi, showing you all the ancient places such as the Qutub Minar and India's largest mosque Jama Masjid. Continue on to Jaipur, known for its many forts and temples. After Jaipur you will visit Agra, known for the mausoleum Taj Mahal. You will experience the city Khajuraho, known for the ancient surviving temples and in the final part of the tour, you will be taken to the holy city Varanasi. It is the spiritual capital of India and the holy river Ganges flows through the city, where people perform their rituals and cleansing. Varanasi is a city which must be visited to get the full experience of religion and spirituality in India and is a perfect way to end the tour.
Day 1 Arrival in Delhi
Begin the journey of the Religious Experience of India tour by arriving in Delhi and on arrival transferring to a hotel to check in. Enjoy an overnight stay and regain the energy for the upcoming days.
Day 2 Delhi sights
Begin this first official day of the tour with an energizing breakfast at the hotel. Next on enjoy a morning city tour of Old and New Delhi starting with a visit to the impressive India Gate structure. Located at the famous Rajpath boulevard, it is a war memorial built during the years of 1921-1931 in honor of the soldier’s lives lost during the First World War. Continue on with a drive by the Parliament House followed by a visit to the Qutub Minar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This minar is the second tallest one in India and reaches a height of 73 meters. Constructed in 1200 CE by the founder of the Delhi Sultanate, Qutub-ud-Din Aibak, it is a beautiful and impressive historical structure.
Continue on to make a visit to the Jama Masjid of Delhi, one of India’s largest mosque. Finished in 1656 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, this stunning architectural structure consists of red sandstone and strips of white marble and is one of the most popular attractions worth visiting when travelling in Delhi. Lastly visit the Gandhi Memorial, known as Raj Ghat, which is a black marble platform marking the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi.
Next prepare to head off to the next destination of this tour, Jaipur. Taking about 5-6 hours to reach by car, use this time to relax, and on arrival check in to the hotel and enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Day 3 Exploring Jaipur
Enjoy this morning with a warm breakfast at the hotel and prepare for today’s city exploring starting off with the Amber Fort. Once the ancient capital, this deserted area is today the location of the Amber Fort and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with 5 other forts of Rajasthan. Located on a hilltop, the entranced can be reached by enjoying an elephant ride at own cost. Continue to explore the many halls, temples and palaces of this fort.
After lunch, continue on to enjoy a city tour of Jaipur with a visit to the City Palace & Museum. The City Palace used to be the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur and was built in 1729 by Sawai Jai Singh II. Today it is still a royal residence as well as a museum holding ancient historical objects and art pieces. Also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site listed Jantar Mantar observatory, Hawa Mahal and some colorful bazaars of Jaipur to try out some bargaining skills and hopefully find a nice gift to bring back to friends and family.
Later enjoy an overnight stay back at the hotel to regain all energy.
Day 4 The Agra Love Story
Begin the morning with a tasty breakfast at the hotel and prepare to transfer to the next destination, Agra. Enjoy a car ride taking about 5 hours and on arrival check in to the hotel and get reenergized with lunch.
After lunch, prepare to visit one of the most popular attractions in the world, the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal mausoleum, one of the world’s most breathtaking architectural structures is also the love story of our times. The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had this mausoleum built in honor of his late wife Mumtaz Mahal in 1632 and it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and visited by more than 3 million people each year.
Later in the afternoon make a visit to the Agra Fort, usually described as a walled city. It is known as one of the most impressive and important architectural structures built by the Mughals, and it beautifully displays the Mughal architecture and style of art.
Later on, head back to the hotel and enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Day 5 Khajuraho awaits - Sights on the way
This morning, enjoy a warm breakfast at the hotel and then prepare to checkout and continue to the next destination of this tour. Get transferred to the train station to catch the Shatabadi Express to Jhansi. On arrival, enjoy the sights such as the stunning Orccha Fort. It was built in the early 16th century by the Bundela Rajputs and consists of many ancient monuments such as palaces and temples. After the visit at the fort, enjoy a tasty lunch at a hotel nearby followed by continuing the journey to Khajuraho. Taking about 3 hours to reach Khajuraho, on arrival check in to the hotel. Enjoy a nice evening dinner and a good night’s sleep to prepare for tomorrow’s sights.
Day 6 The famous Khajuraho temples
Start off this morning with a filling hotel breakfast and prepare for today’s visit to the famous Khajuraho temples. Believed to have been around 85 temples originally, today there are 25 temples standing here dedicated to Hinduism and Jainism. These temples believe to date back to 950 and 1050 CE and are famous for their explicit carvings and art influences. The carvings cover the entire temples and are in exquisite detail. These temples are today listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the afternoon, head back to the hotel to relax and unwind, and later enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Day 7 Spiritual Varanasi awaits
Begin the morning with a tasty breakfast at the hotel followed by checking out from the hotel. Transfer to the airport and connect to a Varanasi flight and on arrival check in to the hotel and unwind.
In the evening, enjoy the enriching experience of visiting the Ganga Aarti Ceremony by a cycle rickshaw. This ceremony is held by the ghats every day in the evening and is performed by a group of priests to worship and honor fire. Through this, a dedication is made to Lord Shiva, the Ganges river, the sun, fire and the universe.
Later enjoy an overnight stay back at the hotel.
Day 8 Ganges Spiritual Experience - the origin of Buddhism
This early morning begins with the spiritual experience of enjoying a boat ride on the Ganges river during sunrise. Take this time to embrace the journey that has been relived during this time and find the peace which is nurturing from inside. Afterwards head back to the hotel and enjoy an energizing breakfast and continue to experience the city of Varanasi. Visit the Bharat Mata Temple, Durga Temple and Benaras Hindu University, which has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
In the afternoon, enjoy an excursion to the city of Sarnath, famous for its deep connection to Buddhism. It is said that this is where Buddha preached his first sermon and where he attained enlightenment. Explore the sights of this religious area and later head back to the hotel to enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Day 9 Back to Delhi
This morning starts with an energizing breakfast at the hotel, followed by checking out of the hotel and transferring to the airport. Connect to a flight for Delhi and on arrival check in to a hotel. Enjoy the evening freely by visiting the last sights according to desire and later enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 10 Departure day
Start off this last day of the tour by enjoying a filling breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at own leisure by exploring the nearby sights, purchasing the last exciting souvenirs for friends and family or trying the local food. In the evening, get transferred to the airport and connect for a flight to onward destination.
